The Low-Country Coastal Learning Cottage was designed by DPZ to meet the classroom needs of areas subject to hurricanes and other violent weather. Operable shutters provide protection for the windows of the building when required by weather conditions. The three-foot wide, vertical windows provide daylight, cross ventilation, and a view of green space.

The appearance of this cottage is based on tradtional architecture styles. It has vernacular character that makes it appropriate for less urban sites. The architectural detailing features a more vernacular look than the Eastover Traditional Learning Cottage.
